Miss Plant at Bray Park State School

Hello Year 3/4 and Ms. B,

I am very excited to be a part of your class from the 5th October 2009.  I am looking forward to spending the month observing Ms. B, and also sharing my own work with you through different lessons and activities.

"Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand." My approach to teaching is similar to this saying, as I believe it is important for students to always be involved  by using an inquiry approach to teaching and learning.  This allows students to use higher-order thinking skills and questioning techniques while they seek resolutions to questions and issues.

Throughout my stay at Bray Park SS I will be assisting in the classroom, preparing and teaching lessons, and introducing lessons based on philosophical questions. Philosophical questions are similar to inquiry questions BUT they are 'BIG' life questions. Philosophy can be exciting, surprising, challenging and fun, and helps us to think critically, creatively, and in a caring, thoughtful manner. It challenges us to ask questions and go beyond easy, obvious answers. It allows us to imagine, wonder, reflect, question, puzzle, talk, and speculate. Philosophy helps us to think!
